Annex Discount Application

The government introduced legislation to allow a 50% discount against your Council tax bill if you own an annex.

For Council tax purposes an annex is a property which receives a separate Council tax bill, but forms part of your home.

You will qualify for this discount if:

you live in the annex and the other property as if they were one house,
members of your family live in the annex as their main residence.

NB. In some cases the property may be exempt dependant upon the circumstances of the person who lives in the annex. exemption class W (opens in new window).

However, the Council has a duty to protect public funds and may use certain Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax data in cross-system and cross-authority comparison checks for the prevention and detection of fraud. This may include, but is not limited to, matching Council Tax data with Electoral Registration and the residency records of other organisations.

The Council may disclose relevant information to other Council departments where it is necessary and lawful to do so for the provision of services. We may also share information with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds.
